In only the most extreme and necessary cases—such as when its roots are damaged beyond repair—we may extract a tooth in preparation for a restorative dental procedure, such as dentures or implants.

In the example displayed here, it sometimes becomes necessary to extract impacted wisdom teeth due to the damage that they can cause to adjacent teeth or due to the ongoing cycles of inflammation that they can cause.  In very rare cases, impacted wisdom teeth can develop cysts and are required to be taken out so as not to damage and weaken the jaw bone.
